The bathroom might not appear as a room that can be upgraded but there are hundreds of things you can do to make it more functional. Moreover, a seemingly small design solution can overturn the look of the entire room in a matter of days of you play your cards right. Here are 6 easy DIY hacks to revamp your bathroom and make it possible to adopt a better daily toilet routine.

Cleaning the air vent
The fewer windows a bathroom has, the better the air ventilation system has to be. The flow of fresh air through the bathroom is essential not only because of all the nasty smells but because the air inside is humid. When you step out of the shower, al that steam has to go somewhere and if the ventilation is poor, then mildew and mold start to form.
The place where this problem is most pronounced are the grates of the air vent. In addition, this is where fine dust particles settle, opposite to the flow of fresh air. Because of this, cleaning the air vent using a thick brush or a vacuum cleaner should be done regularly. If you are skilled enough, you can take down the casing and clean the fan from the inside.
Updating the cabinets
Speaking about moisture in the bathroom, cabinets made from wood are prone to water damage the most. Admittedly, they are coated with a watertight layer of paint but due to wear and tear this coat disappears after a decade or two.
If you notice water damage on the vanity unit and/or the cabinets, it is time to apply another layer of primer and acrylic paint. You can use the opportunity to change the color of the cabinets and update all the handles and knobs by polishing them. A small DIY tip: remove all the doors, hinges, drawers, etc. before you start painting.
Consider installing a bidet
Although they are not popular in the West as in the Middle East and Japan, bidets are slowly but surely becoming a mandatory fixture in our toilets. The secret behind their rise in popularity is the fact that every single person benefits from using a bidet, contrary to the popular belief that only sick people or women use a bidet.
Another common part of bidet FAQ is the question of whether a bidet needs electricity to operate. In a nutshell, a bidet is not much different from the conventional toilet bowl (which is obviously non-electric) but more advanced models do require access to electric power to operate. These models come with in-bowl LED lights, a seat warmer, and the ability to regulate the temp and the direction of the nozzles.
Replacing a broken tile on your own
Installing floor and wall tiles can be a DIY job but covering the entire room with tiles should be left to ceramists because it’s easier and faster when pros are on the job. However, you are not going to call the repairman when a single tile cracks and breaks.
Replacing a couple of tiles in the bathroom is a great DIY project. After you take down the damaged tile using a hammer or a chisel and then try to grind down the old mortar on the wall. Once it is off, apply a new layer of mortar and wait for it to dry before applying grout; finishing the repair off with applying a grout sealer.
A homemade solution for cleaning tile grout
A damaged tile is a rare sight but dirty grout is an issue in nearly every bathroom. One can hardly feel at ease with all that muck around them on normally pristine white tiles. There are industrial grout cleaners but only are they harmful to the environment but they are highly toxic, which can turn lethal in a poorly-ventilated room.
An alternative to these toxic solutions is a homemade cleaner. Mixing hydrogen peroxide with baking soda creates a powerful solution for cleaning tile grout. If you want the whole bathroom to smell nice after cleaning the tiles, you can add lemon juice or lavender to the mixture. The final thing you need is a soft and narrow brush to gently remove all the muck between the tiles.
Becoming a Hollywood star
You know how film stars have those vanity units with large round mirrors with light bulbs adorning the edges? Well, you can have that same touch of luxury inside your water room for a bargain price. Namely, there are LED strips that can be attached to the edge of the vanity unit mirror, which is a fairly easy DIY job. Apart from glamour, you’ll benefit from stronger bathroom lighting, making it easier to apply makeup or shave.
When approached from the right angle, bathroom maintenance can be more than just dusting the shelves or scrubbing the bathtub. Improving the interior design of the weather room will have a positive impact on your daily routine. Just take the aforementioned example of the bidet and how much it improved using the toilet.
